   Once again, Microsoft has started including the most recent major Dashboard Update on new game discs. This time it is the recent Summer/Fall 09 update which brings the NXE dash to 8498. The first game confirmed to have this update on the disc is Cars Race-O-Rama, which is why the newer games as of this writing are not on the site for purchase as of yet. They added the new update into the video partition on the disc, which makes the partition larger than it always has been on older games. Previously there were 3 known good sizes for the video partition, they were known as wave1, wave2 and wave3. One of the security features in all our firmware from 1.0 to the current version 1.6 is a check on the size of the video partition to make sure it matches one of the 3 waves. The firmware will not boot any game that does not match, this is done to prevent booting bad backups and getting banned on Live. Since this new game has a larger video partition that does not match any of the 3 known waves, it does not boot.

* What IS "Wave 4"?
   A regular, retail Xbox 360 disk is split into several sections or "partitions". One of these partitions is known as the "video partition". Before March 2009, this partition simply contained a video that would play if you inserted the disk into a regular DVD player, the video would basically tell you that you were an idiot and need to put it into an Xbox 360 to play it.
   One of the ways Microsoft can detect you running a backup disk is to scan this video to make sure it matches with what is supposed to be on the disk, so to protect you, the firmware itself does a quick checksum of it and if it doesn't match with known video data, it wont boot. Every now and then, this video changed, with each change being called a "wave".
   Normally, system updates (dashboard updates) are stored on a different part of the disk, taking up about 8Mb of space, however in November 2008 Microsoft launched the "NXE", a completely new Dashboard for the system. Along with the new dash came Avatars, making the whole update substantially larger (somewhere in the region of 130MB). This meant the update wouldn't fit on the disk in the same partition that previous updates were located and so instead the update was placed within the video partition. This was known as "wave 3" and hit around March 2009.
   As Microsoft now distributes new Dashboard updates in the same partition, each time the 360 gets a software update, we will see a new "wave" a few months later. There was a Dashboard update in August 2009 and that is now being distributed with the latest games. This is known as Wave4. Its identical to Wave3, except the video partition now contains the August 09 Dash update. The first known game to have this was Cars Race-o-rama - which is why you do not see it available for purchase here yet. (See Below for details.)
   Now, its important to remember that our firmware was designed to PROTECT you and part of that protection is the "video partition" check. When this video partition changes, the firmware doesn't know if its just a new "wave" or if its a bad rip and thus opts to not boot it.
   When wave 3 hit, firmware version 1.51 was quickly released to tackle the problem. This was a temporary fix only, the firmware simply does not do the video partition check and thus boots ANY wave, up to wave 4 and beyond.

* Will I need to update or have my system reflashed to play Wave 4 games?
   IF you are on Firmware Version 1.5 or below, Wave3 games will not boot for you and thus Wave4 games will not either. In this case, YES you need to update your firmware!
   IF you have an Hitachi Drive with Firmware Version 1.51, then ANY wave will boot fine, including Wave4. Ask your Account Manager for Details.
   IF you are on Firmware Version 1.6 (i.e. you have had your system flashed by us after March 9th, 2009), you can ALSO play Wave 4 and above games, however you need to use this special activation disk to do so, if you choose not to wait for the new firmware. This was added to the firmware specifically for this eventuality - the disk activates a "one-shot-boot" mode, essentially it allows system flashed with Firmware Version 1.6 to boot any Backup Disk you insert into the drive. You simply insert the disk into the drive, let it spin up (it will say "play DVD"), then swap in your Wave4 Backup disk. You will need to do this each time you want to play a Wave 4 (or above) Backup disk. Don't worry, since all of our backups have all the necessary stealth data, then Firmware Version 1.6 will still use it, so if you boot a GamesBackup Wave4 game using this method, you would be just as safe as you were booting a wave 3 game.

If you are unsure as to which version of our firmware you have in your system and want to find out if your system will be able to run new backups with Wave 4 Compatibility, please contact your account manager. It will take a day or so to confirm your firmware, since we have everyone's system on file - please keep this in mind.

A new firmware will eventually be released with strict wave4 support (no activation disk needed), however some time needs to pass before this happens. Everyone that reads our News or subscribes to our Newsletters will be notified. If you are not subscribed to our newsletters, you need to do so, to keep up to date with this information.

Although Cars: Race-o-Rama was the first game to appear in the wild with Wave 4 video, it was not necessarily the first game to be pressed or manufactured with it. Also, during a wave transition there are often a few games released with exceptions to the process. For example: Cars: Race-O-Rama was released for retail purchase on October 13th, 2009 - It has the Wave 4 Video Partition. Borderlands, scheduled for Retail release on October 20th, 2009 still has the Wave 3 Video Partition (yes, we have it already - just testing everything before we put it up on the shop.)

Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. With the business of our Servers, we had a few errors in some of our Database Files.

There's no need to fret however, as most of the information has been retrieved. As some of you may have noticed, on Thursday June 25th, the 360 Site was down for most of the day.

This is when our errors started popping up. We have recovered most of our data, but had to enter it in by hand, which really beat up our webmaster this morning. However, there are some orders that we could not get back up on the site. Any order between 764 and 804 are not going to be able to be viewed on your shop accounts. All orders before 764 and after 804 are back up on the site and in perfect working order.

The boss is not happy and to make up for this inconvenience to all of you, he has decided to make a special coupon code for all backup disk orders between the time you receive this e-mail and July 3rd, 2009.

After hours upon hours of testing, the new firmware (version 1.51) is now available. This new firmware will permit everyone to play the new games that are coming out on their backup disks for your XBox 360 Console. Some of these new games include:

Major League Baseball 2K9, Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X., Legends of Wrestlemania (not released yet, but we have it and know it needs the update,) and Godfather 2. It was said that Resident Evil 5 would need it, but it turns out that it is only needed on certain model drives.

All previous customers that got their XBox 360 Systems flashed by us, you are asked to contact your Account Manager for your special coupon code to be able to get the new firmware flashed onto your system at a discounted rate. This discounted rate will only be valid for customers whom we have flashed their systems in the past. If we did not Flash your system originally, you will not recieve the coupon code.

LightScribe the Game Image On Your Backup Disk!

Ok, how would you like to have your backup disks that you order contain the image of the game that it actually contains? It is now possible at www.360GamesBackup.com with new Technology. Now, Lightscribe Technology has been around for some time now, HOWEVER it was never possible to do it to a Dual Layer DVD Disk (which is what we use here at 360GamesBackup.com.)

Well, like all technology, the barrier has been broken! Verbatim has announced it's newest release... Dual Layer DVD+R Disks with LightScribe Technology. We here at 360GamesBackup.com pride ourselves on being THE FIRST to offer LightScribe Backup Disks. Now, these disks are more expensive than the regular Verbatim Dual Layer DVD+R Disks that we normally use. Does that mean that our Price per Backup Disk is going to go up? No Way!

We are going to offer the LightScribed Backup Disks as an extra option during the checkout process. Simply add your Backup Disks to your cart like you normally would. When you are finished shopping, view your cart. Under each Backup Disk, there will be a 'Gift Wrapping' option. Click the "Add" Link, and a Lightbox will appear asking you to "Please choose a type of gift wrapping" in a pull down box. You can still add the Christmas Gift Wrapping, but another option will be there: Lightscribe Disk Image. Click on it, and hit "Save" and you are done.
